Today I formally published the website www.mkfinewoodworking.com. I've always been pretty good at documenting my woodworking projects via photographs of my progress. The advancement of cameras on mobile devices and auto-upload capabilities such as Google Photos has made this process more convenient and easy.
About seven years ago I purchased the domain mkfinewoodworking.com. I think I did it so I could set up business accounts at hardwood suppliers in the area. Regardless, for some reason I finally decided it was about time for me to put something more formal together to showcase my work.
I'm not a UI/UX expert nor a web developer by any means. The last "real" web development I did was in Adobe Flex! My initial attempt at a site had me find a free web template online. It included: html, javascript, and css files. I got it looking pretty good, but I figured there had to be a better way - for me. My second attempt had me throw together a quick and dirty site using Adobe's Spark service. The product it produced was respectable, sans the logos it smeared all over the site - you could pay a fee to get them removed.
My final attempt had me building the site using Google Sites. For some reason, I've always had my domain managed through G Suite, but I never spent the time playing with sites before. I did at one time use this domain as a playground for Google App Engine proof of concepts.
I'm glad I found this capability, as it definitely meets all my current criteria: easy, looks good, and free.
Make sure to check out the Gallery to see a history of my prior work. You can click on the images to get a detailed description of each piece and see the photo album of how it was crafted.
Welcome to my site!
BTW: Today I did get some actual shop time in. I got to work on a cherry picture frame for Grammy and Papa, who will be in town starting this Wednesday. The frame will house a picture of both my kids in their new Blackhawk jerseys at hockey lessons. This is a late Xmas gift for them. The picture to the left show the progress from today. Tomorrow I plan on cleaning up the glue, sanding and staining. I'm going to probably use General Finish Arm-R-Seal.
