Study Built-in

The study was a blank slate before starting this project. When we built the house, the study was left pretty barebones. There was a neutral paint on the walls, and the standard 1x8 trim surrounding the perimeter. Fortunately, I always planned to apply wainscoting on the walls, which is why the door and window trim was all oversized to enable nice meeting between the case work and the wainscoting.

I originally thought this space would be a basic office with a desk and possible some shelves. After some mental deliberation, I landed on this built-in concept that incorporates cabinetry, a solid slab of walnut, a workspace, and ample shelving.

The plan is for me to build a Morris Chair for leisure and comfort - away from a TV. In the mean time, the kids have a small plastic IKEA table in there. This is where the kids do a lot of drawing and crafts.
