Hutch
The hutch sits next to our kitchen table in the kitchen nook. The original plan for the kitchen nook was to have the mission style table fill the space with the addition of a large wall clock to assist with filling up the blank wall next to the table. It was within hours of me getting the table set up before I started pitching my wife on the concept of the hutch. My literal pitch was: "I have an idea for this space that will probably cost $1200 and take four to six months to complete". My timing wasn't off by that much, but my cost estimate was on the low side. In the end I probably spent north of $2000 on materials, but it was well worth it.
This piece is constructed of quarter sawn white oak. All the drawers are made with a combination of hand cut half-blind and full dovetails. It took me forever to get them all cut. The drawer pulls were hand made by a blacksmith out of Michigan, while the leaded glass was hand made by a craftsman who lives only a mile from my home. The lighting is provided by a Philips Hues LED light strip, which gives me the ability to change to an infinite number of colors. I've also hooked it up to my home automation system.
