Gantry Crane

I had to build this gantry crane to facilitate getting my new Hammer® A3-31 jointer/planer moved down into my shop, roughly 12 feet below grade. The crane is based off the Wood Gantry Crane built by Frank of frankmakes.com.

The process of moving the jointer/planer down to my shop was no simple feat. It included the assembly, disassembly, reassembly, and disassembly of the crane and associated platform. It took the better part of a full day to complete the process. The crane is now living a quiet life disassembled and stored in my garage on the loft.

With the move of the 800+ pound piece of equipment complete, I'm now able to forge ahead using a tool that is truly a pleasure to use. The jointer/planer is quite, powerful, and reliable. It has really increased my efficiency and throughput in the shop.
